Adršpach Chateau - Rock Climbing Museum

During the 15th century, the fortress of the Lords of Berka of Dubá used to stand on the site of what is now the chateau. The first major reconstruction work was probably carried out in 1596. The oldest description of the castle dates back to 1661. Next to the fortress there was a building housing the governor and scrivener’s offices, a carpenter’s shop and a bakery, and stables for riding or carriage horses. Adam Bohdanecký had the chateau enlarged in the early 17th century.

Further minor alterations were carried out under Count Prokop Hartman of Klarštejn in 1825 and the chateau was last modified in 1886. In 1945, the chateau was confiscated on the basis of the Beneš Decrees. In 1946, it was taken over by the Ministry of Education and Culture, as was the 18th-century two-storey building. Between the 1970s and 1980s, the building was demolished.

From 1951 to 1954, the chateau served as a hostel for apprentices of the textile factory in Horní Adršpach. After five years, the building and the land were transferred to the State Farm and gradually fell into disrepair.

In 1969, the chateau and its land were acquired by the Youth Club Union, but in the same year its property was confiscated and the building was taken over by the Ministry of the Interior, which set up an archive and invested in at least the most necessary repairs. The archive remained in the chateau until 1989. In 2003, the chateau was again acquired by the Youth Club Union as part of the restitution process.

In 2013, the municipality of Adršpach bought the chateau and began work on renovating it. The chateau was opened to the public for the first time on 1 May 2014.

Exhibitions

The Baroque Adršpach Chateau houses a rock climbing museum. The exhibition is dedicated to sandstone climbing, which is inherently associated with the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks. It includes photographs, historical documents and the equipment used for climbing on sandstone rocks. The exhibition presents the history of rock climbing in the region. Exhibits chart the development of belay techniques, aids, harnesses and boots. Themed exhibitions are also held there.

The Third Prince Escape Game

The game is designed primarily for families with children, but it will also be entertaining for adults. The game is located in the chateau’s gloomy and mysterious dungeon, so wear warm clothing.
