Church of St. Anne in Vižňov

The original wooden church in Vižňov is mentioned in the oldest sources as early as the first half of the 14th century. Until the Thirty Years' War it was a parish church, then it became a branch church with the jurisdiction of Vernéřovice. The construction of the present St. Anne's Church began in 1724 and was fully completed four years later. It was led by a master mason from Broumov, the architectural design was undoubtedly provided by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer.

The nave of the church has a deeply oval plan with the middle sections of the sides slightly concave. Two similar parts of the building with blunted corners are adjacent to the nave on the shorter sides. On the west side it is a small chancel with a low sacristy attached to it, and on the east side it is a chancel with two spiral staircases to which a square tower is attached. The builder of the tower was Johann Heinrich Opitz from Ruprechtice. The hipped roof was originally covered with shingles. In 1903 it was replaced by slate and in the 1990s by tin, painted red. Almost nothing of the original interior furnishings remain in the church today, as all of the rare furnishings were placed in storage after a Baroque painting was stolen from the church in 1990. The Church of St. Anne in Vižnov, which must be considered a very interesting building of high quality, is unfortunately in a very dilapidated state today.
