From the mid-13th century onwards, colonists arrived in the regions of Teplice and Broumov, mainly from Thuringia, bringing a specific type of farmstead known as the "Frankish courtyard farmstead". The villages throughout the Broumov region are colonial and built-up, along the streams running down from the foothills and forests.
One specific architectural feature of the Broumov region is the classical courtyard farmstead. The rural houses were influenced by the classicist construction and reconstruction of the town of Broumov. In the countryside, this style became popular from the twenties, especially between 1850 and 1870.
There is no difference in the decoration of the façades between residential and farm buildings. The details are done in stucco and complement the basic façades sectioned off by mouldings, cornices, blind arcades and pilasters. The gables facing the road are set with plaques commemorating the founding of the farmhouses, as well as stone reliefs and niche statues of saints. Classical pilasters in the gable are usually topped with capitals.
The doorways, set in arched niches, are characteristic of this style. There are niches with seats on the sides, carved out of sandstone. The arches of the doorways are usually dated and marked with the owner's monogram and the house number. One characteristic feature of these buildings is the dog kennel, lined with sandstone slabs with the relief décor of the house. The building plasterwork is most often in two colours - yellow and white. The classicist-style entrance doors to the houses are also coloured. The stables and sheds formed part of the house. The courtyard was enclosed by granaries and barns, often with a life tenancy dwelling, which sometimes included a granary. The cellars were sometimes outside the house, but more often formed part of the house.
The entrances to the farmsteads are sometimes through a tenancy dwelling, or through a separate gateway. A few of them are decorated with lavish sculptures.
