We invite you to visit the Merkur Kit Museum, which you can find in Police nad Metují. The Merkur kit is inherently associated with this town, where it has always been manufactured. The company celebrated its centenary in 2020.
In 2021, work began on the comprehensive reconstruction of the museum's exhibitions. The first phase saw the renovation of the reception area following designs by architect Zdeněk Rychtařík. In the future, this modern, clean style will be used throughout the Museum. The museum now hosts a travelling exhibition of Woody wooden toys with the popular train tracks, and a playroom with wooden blocks is prepared for younger children. Older children are sure to love the Merkur building kit workshop. A new exhibition of mining and mining technology opened in the renovated cellars in August 2021. For model railway buffs, the museum has a large classic Merkur track and a collection of Merkur trains.
The museum displays a Merkur replica of the lens machine on which Professor Wichterle cast the very first hydrogel contact lenses. Another example that proves that Merkur is more than just a toy is the robot built by a team of students from Litomyšl, who won the Robotics World Championship in the USA with their project. The Merkur Museum also contains models of iconic buildings such as London's Tower Bridge, Karlštejn Castle and the Ještěd transmitter. The biggest attraction, however, is probably the Steel City, constructed by builder Jiří Mládek according to the novel by Jules Verne.
