The distinctly rugged belt of the sharply peaks of the Javoří Mountains contrasts strongly with the gently undulating depression of the Broumov Basin, which forms a natural protective wall from the northeast. Their pointy forested peaks and ridges are testament to their volcanic origin. Long quiet valleys and deep troughs hide a number of natural attractions in the form of rocks of various shapes and colours. Criss-crossing the slopes of the Javoří Mountains there are numerous forest paths, many of which are marked hiking and cycling trails with breathtaking views of the Broumov Basin and Broumovské stěny. The marked ridge trail over the highest peak of the Javoří Mountains - Ruprechtický Špičák, reaching a height of 880 m above sea level, is just as stunning. It rises less than 10 km northwest of Broumov and at the summit, a few dozen metres from the Polish border, you can then get even higher by climbing the 30-metre metal lookout tower. The gorgeous views of the entire panorama of the Broumov region, the surrounding peaks of the Javoří Mountains, the massif of the Owl Mountains in Poland, the Giant Mountains and the Eagle Mountains are definitely worth this more demanding hiking trip. The best way to reach the top is from the village of Ruprechtice.
At the foot of the Javoří Mountains, near the village of Rožmitál, you can also visit the unique Rožmitál Quarry near Broumova Nature Trail. Visitors with an interest in the natural sciences are sure to enjoy other geological attractions such as Kamenec, Vysoká skála (High Rock) and the open-air exhibition Intrasudetic Basin Geopark in Vižňov, built right next to one of the Baroque churches of the Broumov Group.
